SWTOR-Station played the Trooper class at Gamescom and has collected many skills and abilities for the class.

At Gamescom we were not only able to play as Trooper on Ord Mantell, but also found a trainer, which enables you to buy additional skills. We took notes and some pictures of all the skills we were able to see. Please note that those may not be final and there will be more coming due to the specializations’ talent trees, which were not shown yet.

Whether you’re looking to dominate the galaxy in the name of the Empire or rescue it from darkness as part of the Republic, you won’t get very far without a starship. In Star Wars™: The Old Republic™, your starship will be your base of operations, and it might even be your best friend. Ship models are specially designed to match the needs and tastes of each of the class types, so even though all the starships are outfitted for traveling the galaxy, each has its own character.

Study the style and specifications of the various Starships by accessing the HoloNet now!

Today at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, SWTOR Wiki sat down with BioWare Austin’s Daniel Erickson, Star Wars: The Old Republic lead writer, and asked him some questions about the game.

Among other things, there’s some more info about Chiss and Sith Purebloods in the game, as well as player character and companion customization.

They are very customizable in terms of the look and feel. Each class has its own companion characters, they can be entirely looted, entirely kitted out, like in other BioWare games, which makes the whole loot routine a very interesting one, since someone can try to get some loot for their companion character that they don’t even have with them right now. Not only can you customize how they look and what outfits you put on them, they also have, beyond their normal abilities, a customizable AI kit, so you can give them a grenade kit or a healing kit, which tell them to behave in a different way.

The German site GameStar Videos has a little video preview of the Imperial Trooper. This trooper is playing as a Zabrak, which confirms them, as a playable race for this class.

SWTOR-Station played Star Wars The Old Republic for 15 minuttes at Gamescom in Germany. Here are some of their thoughts.

Don’t be scared if the queue is very long in front of the TOR booth  in hall 6. There’s lots of waiting space behind the booth, but waiting is definitely worth it. Before you can play, you are lead through three “cinemas”, which introduce you to the game before you can get your hands on it. Every session takes about 15 minutes and deals with different aspects of TOR,

The first cinema show deals with the story of The Old Republic. After an introduction by Dallas Dickinson you get to see the Hope trailer in High Definition – we even think it was an extended version because there were more detailed scenes and more slow motion implemented. In addition, we were presented the video on voice-over in The Old Republic, which was already published on the official website.

The second show dealt with combat in TOR.  The group combat against the battle droid we already saw at E3 this year was shown and the website video on “Combat of The Old Republic”. The third and probably most interesting show presents a tutorial video to us which explains the basic controls of TOR (walk WASD, jump Spacebar, M map etc.). And then…finally…you are allowed to play The Old Republic for 15 minutes.

  • 36 people can play at the booth at the same time.
  • The Jedi classes are not playable yet, but the remaining six classes are.
  • Character creation could not be seen, there are predefined characters.
  • We saw a Zabrak trooper. It looks like this species will also be available for this class to choose.
  • There are thin and big characters. It looks like body weight is going to be adjustable.
  • Voice.overs are completely in English at the booth.
  • The characters start right at the beginning and you can go as far as you can in 15 minutes.
  • If you open the map (via M) and continue walking the map becomes transparent so you can easily navigate to your next target
  • There are bonus quests which start automatically. If you reach a certain point on the map, a quest appears in your log. For example you have to kill K’lor slugs in the Valley of the Dark Lords on Korriban. Bonus quest give experience points once you finish them, you don’t have to bring them to an npc.
  • There are “Bind on Equip” items
  • There’s a system implemented, which allows you to bind you to a location to return quickly
  • There are class trainers, who allow you to buy new skills once you gain a certain level

Of course, we will try to film as much as possible and write down details on skills and classes. Stay tuned for more information on TOR.
